William Paterson University Pet Waste Control Policy To protect the health, safety, and environmental quality of the William Paterson University (WPU) campus, all pet owners or custodians on university property are required to immediately collect and properly dispose of pet waste in a sanitary manner. Pet waste shall not be left on WPU grounds, including walkways, parking lots, green spaces, or near stormwater drainage systems, except on the property of the pet owner if applicable. Waste must be placed in a sealed, non-permeable bag and disposed of in designated WPU waste receptacles. Individuals walking pets on campus must carry appropriate materials for waste collection. This policy supports stormwater management by preventing pet waste from contributing to water pollution. Violations may result in fines up to $100 per occurrence, enforced by WPU Campus Police or Facilities Management, and potential disciplinary action for students or employees under university conduct codes.
