Here are some opportunities for students interested in working in Residential Life that are currently available.
The Graduate Resident Director position is a 10-month, live-in professional position serving the Office of Residence Life. The Graduate Resident Director supervises a staff of approximately 12-15 undergraduates, including Resident Assistants, Desk Assistants and Office Assistants. This position will work 20 structured office hours per week, as well as additional work hours in the evening and on weekends related to on-call Residence Life responsibilities and community development responsibilities. The Graduate Resident Director will report directly to an Area Coordinator and ultimately to the Director of Residence Life.

The Graduate Resident Director (GRD) position at William Paterson University comes with a wealth of opportunities. The position encourages collaboration with other departments across the campus; offers a diverse working, learning, and living environment; and provides the ability to develop a variety of transferrable skills.
Graduate Resident Directors are required to live on campus, and are provided a fully-furnished one bedroom apartment, as well as a partial meal plan. GRDs also receive a $10,000 stipend, paid bi-weekly during their 10-month contract, and a tuition waiver for 9 credits per semester for the fall and spring (18 total credits per academic year).

Graduate Resident Director Application
The Resident Assistant (RA) position at William Paterson University is a full-time undergraduate student who acts as a student advisor to approximately 50 residential students in the University residence halls. RAs must possess maturity, leadership qualities, experience, and an interest in working with other students and staff. They are a vital and necessary link in the Residential Life program. As a paraprofessional staff member of the Division of Student Development, he/she is a representative of the University who works most directly with campus residents. The RA reports to his/her Graduate Resident Director, and together, they report to the Department of Residence Life.

The Resident Assistant position provides many benefits, including the opportunity to develop skills in leadership, active listening, mediation, problem solving, administration, and mentoring.
Due to the intensive and time-consuming nature of the position, RAs receive compensation in the form of free housing and an RA meal plan. RAs live in a single room in the residence hall to which they are assigned, and receive 19 meals per week with their meal plan. The compensation package does not include any Pioneer Express money.

Desk Assistants are students employed by Residential Life to work at the front desk of our residence halls, and their shifts altogether span the hours of 8:00 AM - 12:00 AM daily. Their main responsibilities are to monitor the main entrance, lobbies, and other public areas of their building, as well as to check the identification of everyone who enters the residence hall. Furthermore, Desk Assistants provide general assistance to students, parents, and guests who enter the building, and also assist in emergency situations if/when they arise. The Desk Assistant reports directly to the Graduate Resident Director of the building in which they are employed, and together they report to the Department of Residence Life.
To be considered for the DA position, candidates need to meet the following conditions:
Desk Assistants are the first face students, parents, and guests see when they enter the residence halls, giving DAs the ability to meet and build relationships with a large number of people, a majority of them being their peers at William Paterson. Desk Assistants also develop administrative, management, customer service, problem-solving, and assertiveness skills that will benefit them during their time at William Paterson University and beyond. Desk Assistants are paid $9.00 an hour, and can only work a maximum of 25 hours per week in this role.
The Desk Assistant Selection process usually begins in March for the following Fall semester. However, in some circumstances, DA applications are released during the fall semester on an as-needed basis. In both cases, information would be posted throughout the residence halls and via the campus announcement system.
