INFORMATION FOR

Pre-Police Academy

The William Paterson University of New Jersey Police Department sponsors a Pre-Police Academy Program for WPU students. This program educates and informs the participants about the challenges and adversities police officers encounter daily while on patrol.

In addition, as part of this program, which will be conducted in a police academy format, we will introduce the value of physical training, the advantages of defensive tactics, and the importance of understanding your rights.

During this program, members of other law enforcement agencies will join us to present specialty units in policing. Those agencies include: William Paterson University Police Department, Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, Wayne Police Department, Montclair State University Police K9 Unit, Haledon Police Department, North Haledon Police Department, and New Jersey State Police.

The interaction between student participants and members of the aforementioned law enforcement agencies during the program will have a positive effect on all involved. As police officers, we look forward to hosting this program and sharing our knowledge with all the participants.

Dressed in uniform-style gear, the group moves in sync, showing grit, determination, and teamwork. Instructors, easily recognized with bold lettering across their backs, stand watch, correcting form and driving home discipline. Around them, classmates look on, ready for their turn, as the training ground buzzes with focus, resilience, and the spirit of preparation for the challenges ahead.
