Activities

The goal of the Emeriti Faculty Association is to encourage faculty to remain engaged with the William Paterson University community. As emerita/emeritus faculty live locally and nationally, we aim to provide programming both in person and via Zoom to encourage the greatest participation. An ultimate goal is to provide an activity in the fall and spring semester each year, and perhaps one during the summer, that may be of interest.

Engagement may take a variety of formats, including academic and social programming, use of campus services, and participation in William Paterson projects. Faculty may choose to volunteer as mentors through the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute program, help with the Pioneer Food Pantry, work with student groups whose mission matches emeriti interests and expertise, etc.

As the EFA is relatively new, opportunities will likely expand over the years to provide a fuller array of activities that may be of interest to emerita/emeritus faculty.

Some recent activities include Zoom meetings each semester with the President and Provost to update faculty on the progress of University initiatives. Spring Zoom events have connected faculty who may not come to campus but want to participate and connect with colleagues. Past events have highlighted faculty research, a performance resulting from the auditing of jazz training, and a presentation on how to better protect oneself from online hacking and scams. (See if Brian Fanning’s session was taped and has a link to be included.)

In Spring 2024 local faculty participated in a walking tour of Spanish Harlem.

Future activities being considered include:

  • A Zoom meeting in March 2025 to discuss a topic of interest, led by colleague(s) with particular expertise in the subject matter.
  • A reception prior to the March 13, 2025 Distinguished Lecturer Series program featuring Terry Gross, host of NPR's Fresh Air.

Information about upcoming planned activities will be communicated via your William Paterson University email account and posted on this website.
