Students completing this certificate will be able to: demonstrate foundational knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biology by explaining how the body's systems function and interact to support movement, health, and adaptation in everyday activities; analyze the physical, psychological, and social factors that influence development across the lifespan; apply statistical and research principles to assess evidence-based practices; communicate effectively in medical and clinical contexts by demonstrating proficiency in medical terminology and understanding the pathology of mental and physical health conditions.

The certificate includes those courses most commonly for admission to graduate Occupational Therapy programs; students enrolled in this program will also receive appropriate advisement on preparing for professional graduate program admissions. Although there are a large number of credits required for the certificate, most students preparing for an Occupational Therapy career begin with a Biology, Exercise Physiology, Sport Medicine, or Psychology major. Many of the courses required for the certificate are also requirements for these majors; several also satisfy UCC requirements. This certificate is also appropriate for career changers who can matriculate in the certificate as a post-bachelor’s student.
