Add to Calendar WP Midday Concert Series Big Beat When: September 26, 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM Overview Big Beat is a 19-piece big band that was formed with one purpose - to make music that sounds good and feels good. The band is co-led by four WP jazz alumni arrangers: trombonist Caleb Rumley, bassist Charlie Dougherty, keyboardist Ryan Tomski, and saxophonist Phil Engsberg, plus eleven other WP alumni. With lead vocalist and WP alumnus Allison McKenzie singing jazz, R&B, and soul, they create a fresh big band sound. They have performed at numerous major New York area jazz venues including The Knitting Factory, Langosta Lounge, and WP’s Summer Jazz Room series. Guest artist collaborations include vocalists Karryn Allison and Vanessa Rubin, guitarist Peter Bernstein, saxophonist and WP faculty member Rich Perry, trumpeters Duane Eubanks and Freddie Hendrix, and the Shady Street Show Band.
