ABOUT PROGRAM

The Ultimate Pre-College Sales Competition

The Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales and Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University will host the High School Sales Challenge on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. 

New Jersey high school students will represent their sales team in this one-day event. The sales competition will consist of a preliminary round (Selling You: Podcast Interview) and a final round (Selling Your Idea: Podcast Interview). Student competitors will have the chance to compete for the ultimate trophy!

Who should participate in this program?

The High School Sales Challenge is for juniors and seniors interested in business career pathways such as professional sales, marketing, social media, and entrepreneurship.

When you complete this program, you will:

  • Understand how to sell yourself and ideas to influence others
  • Have the confidence to sell yourself during a college admissions interview or job interview
  • Know how to deliver a presentation to convey your ideas and thoughts
  • Have experience with learning in college environment
  • Understand career options that align with your personal and professional interests
  • Receive a certificate of completion for your achievements

FORMAT
The High School Sales Challenge is a one-day sales education program. The program consists of five components – Sales Competition, Student Mentor Groups, College Life Talks, Sales & Marketing Career Pathway Talks, and Awards Ceremony.

  • SALES COMPETITION
    The Sales Competition allows student participants to develop confidence and persuasive skills in a fun and exciting competition-style learning environment. The competition involves a mock podcast interview where participants sell themselves and their ideas.

  • SALES TEAM MENTOR GROUPS
    The Sales Team Mentor Groups offer student participants the guidance of business students from William Paterson University as they navigate the sales competition. Student participants will engage with their sales team mentors in small cohorts to prepare for the sales competition.

  • COLLEGE LIFE TALK
    The College Life Talk is led by students and the William Paterson University admissions department. The sessions allow high school students to learn about college life as a student, classes, student clubs, scholarships, the application process, and more.

  • MARKETING & SALES CAREER PATHWAY TALK
    The Marketing and Sales Career Pathway Talk is led by business professionals that work in marketing and professional sales and the William Paterson University Career Development Center. These discussions give high school students insights into career paths, job opportunities, business industries, and salaries.

  • AWARDS CEREMONY
    The Awards Ceremony is the most exciting activity of the sales competition. The competition judges will select top performers to be recognized and awarded for their success. In addition, all participants will receive certificates of participation.
