Women in Data Science (WiDS) Workshop

WiDS @ William Paterson University in a Healthcare Context is independently organized by the Global Business & Finance Institute and the Cotsakos College of Business to be part of the mission to increase participation of women in data science and to feature outstanding women doing outstanding work.

The U.S. healthcare industry stands as one of the largest employers, encompassing hospital systems, insurance firms, labs, pharmacies, service providers, and technology companies. Its diverse workforce spans from doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals to administrative staff, support personnel, and specialists in technology and data. This presentation aims to demystify the pivotal role of data, analytics, and AI in shaping the evolving healthcare landscape. Focusing on population health, personalized medicine, and streamlined workflows, we will also touch on the current and evolving career and learning paths in this dynamic sector.

Indoor Golf Outing – Funded by the Student Government Association

Join us for a day of fun and networking at our upcoming golfing event hosted at a premier, high-end indoor golf facility. This event is open to students of all skill levels and includes lunch, a PGA golf coach to provide tips and tricks, and transportation to and from the facility. 2 Day Financial Modeling Bootcamp 

Join us for this intense, two-day Financial Modeling and Valuation Bootcamp. Students will recreate the Private Equity led takeover of a company in the retail space. Participants will examine both the target and acquiring company to structure the deal. At the end of the two-day workshop students will:

  • Be exposed to market players in the space such as: Banks, Credit Funds, and Private Equity firms
  • Appreciate key value drivers and investment risks
  • Understand a company’s capital structure and risk and return profiles for various forms of debt and equity
  • Gain exposure to the basic components of a credit memo
  • Be able to create a simple LBO model
  • Perform stress testing
  • Estimate the combined value of the firm using relative valuation and DCF models

Finally, we will discuss careers in the field and strategies for obtaining your dream job.
