What Is Innovation for Impact?

Innovation for Impact (IFI) is CSREI's university-wide initiative for turning student ideas into real-world implementation. It helps students identify real-world problems, develop responsible solutions, and work alongside implementation partners to create meaningful impact.

The initiative is guided by three core convictions:

  • Meaningful innovation begins with disciplined problem identification, not premature solutions.
  • The strongest student work happens in collaboration with real implementation partners, not in isolation.
  • Responsible innovation is a core expectation throughout the process, not an add-on at the end.

How It Works

Innovation for Impact consists of two connected programs that guide students from problem discovery to implementation.

AUGUST – DECEMBER

IFI Challenge

Student teams identify a real problem, develop a responsible solution, and create an early-stage prototype. The Challenge culminates in Demo Day each December.Learn More ...

IFI Lab

Selected teams advance into IFI Lab, working with implementation partners to transform prototypes into deployment-ready pilot projects.

Implementation Partners

A defining feature of Innovation for Impact is the involvement of implementation partners. University departments, businesses, nonprofits, healthcare systems, and public-sector agencies bring forward real challenges that student teams can address.

Partners often remain engaged throughout the process, helping teams refine their work during IFI Challenge and supporting implementation during IFI Lab. The goal is to move beyond academic exercises and create solutions with genuine real-world value.
