Midday Artist Series • Dr. Carl Patrick Bolleia<br>Performance and Discussion: Learning and Internalizing Repertoire

Overview

Carl Bolleia comes to the WP music faculty from his studies with the legendary pianist and contemporary virtuoso Ursula Oppens at the Manhattan School of Music, a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano from Rutgers, and current post-doctoral study at Juilliard in Historical Performance.  He has premiered new works by such composers as Frederic Rzewski, Eric Ewazen, Ron Mazurek, and Chris Opperman, as well as by WP composers Jeffrey Kresky, John Link, Kevin Norton, and David Weisberg. One of the most challenging elements in building career is learning how to practice, learning how to learn new repertoire quickly and musically.  Dr. Bolleia has become an expert at learning both contemporary and historical works, and will feature both of these genres on this program, combining his performances with discussions about how he learned and practices those pieces, from a musical and pianistic perspective.
