Veteran saxophonist Houston Person possesses one of the warmest and most evocative tenor sax sounds in jazz today. His rich vocabulary is especially poignant on his signature ballads, but he can turn up the heat on up-tempo tunes as well. Well-known for his long collaboration with legendary vocalist Etta Jones, he has also recorded with Lena Horne, Bill Charlap, Gene Ammons, Horace Silver, and some of our great organists including Charles Earland, Shirley Scott, and Johnny “Hammond” Smith. His multi-faceted tenor will be joined in this concert by longtime partnership of the Dave Leonhardt Trio, including bassist Matt Parrish and WPU jazz alumnus Colby Inzer on drums.

Each Jazz Room concert is preceded by a “Sittin’ In” meet-the-artist session one hour prior to performance. Free to all ticket holders. Audience members have a chance to meet and interact with that day’s artist in a question-answer format. (unless otherwise noted)
