The Bachelor of Music in [Classical] Performance with Emphasis in Jazz Studies and the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies with an Emphasis in [Classical] Performance provide a rare opportunity for students who are exceptionally talented as both classical and jazz performers. In both of these programs, students study privately each semester in jazz and classical areas, they participate in elite chamber ensembles and in some of the 24 small groups in the Jazz Studies Program. Coursework includes full course sequences in music theory, ear training, improvisation, European music history and jazz history, jazz arranging, and more. Two auditions are required for admission to either of these programs. The applicant must submit an audio recording for the Jazz portion and attend a live audition for the Classical portion of the degree.
