INFORMATION FOR
William Paterson University's Office for Student Diversity and Inclusion will host a series of events in November in celebration of Native American Heritage Month, offering opportunities for students and the campus community to explore Indigenous history, culture, music, and traditions. The celebration begins Tuesday, November 3, at 12:30 p.m. in University Commons Ballrooms B and C with an interactive performance by the Redhawk Dancers, who will share Native American history, dance, music, and song from Indigenous communities across the country. The event, which includes a complimentary lunch, will also be streamed online. At 2 p.m., participants can take part in a civic engagement activity assembling plant-growing kits to be donated to a local school in Paterson.
The celebration continues Thursday, November 5, with a bus trip to see Native Voices: Karenna and Lay Our Vibration Down, two short operas by Grammy-nominated cellist and composer Dawn Avery, who is of Mohawk descent. The bus will depart from Lot 5 at 4 p.m. and return at 10 p.m. The cost is $5 for William Paterson students, payable in cash at the Office for Student Diversity and Inclusion in the Student Center, Room 313. Events are funded by the Student Government Association and are eligible for credit toward the University's Social Justice Leadership Badge.
