INFORMATION FOR
The Cheng Library once again welcomed the children of William Paterson University faculty and staff for Take Your Child to Work Day, offering young visitors an opportunity to explore the Library through an exciting, interactive adventure.
This year’s featured activity was “Escape Through Time,” a time-travel-themed Escape Room designed for children ages 3–14. Participants were transported on an adventure through history, working together to escape a mysterious time warp and find their way back to the present day.
The adventure took participants on a journey through several fascinating periods of history. Along the way, teams encountered puzzles, clues, riddles, and challenges inspired by the Jurassic Era, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Greece, Ancient Sparta, and the Revolutionary Era. Each new time period presented a different challenge, requiring participants to work together, communicate, and think creatively to advance through the adventure.
From navigating prehistoric times to deciphering ancient clues and confronting challenges from the Revolutionary Era, the Escape Room encouraged children to use problem-solving and teamwork skills while learning about different periods and cultures along the way.
The collaborative nature of the Escape Room allowed everyone to contribute, whether by spotting a clue, solving a riddle, putting together a puzzle, or helping their team decide what to do next. After traveling through each historical era, participants finally made their way back to the present day—successfully escaping the time warp!
“Escape Through Time” was more than just an Escape Room. It provided children with an opportunity to experience the Library in a new way while encouraging curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Children and families also enjoyed a special story time adventure in the Library’s Curriculum Materials Center. Children selected favorite books to read aloud, while others enjoyed listening to one of our librarian's featured selections. Young readers were captivated by engaging stories that sparked imagination and a love of reading. Meanwhile, parents explored the Curriculum Materials Center through a self-guided tour, discovering the wide variety of children's literature, curriculum resources, educational kits, and hands-on learning materials available for borrowing. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for families to connect with the library and learn more about the many resources that support learning, literacy, and creativity both at home and in the classroom.
The Cheng Library was pleased to be part of Take Your Child to Work Day and to help make the day an engaging and memorable experience for the children of the William Paterson community.
