More than 125 of William Paterson University’s talented music students will take to the Shea Center stage on Friday, October 16 for Powerhouse of Sound, a concert designed to showcase the variety of music programs and ensembles within the Department of Music.
The concert, which begins at 7:00 p.m., is a benefit for the Music Department’s endowed music scholarship fund. Admission is $28.
“Powerhouse of Sound is the Music Department's love letter to the University as a whole. Our students and faculty have been preparing this concert since the end of August, and we can't wait to show our friends, families, and community members the breadth and depth of our diverse and extraordinary talent,”says Christopher Herbert, chair of the Music Department. "I am also personally excited that we will honor retired music professor Dr. Diane Falk-Romaine at this event, recognizing her 34 years of service to William Paterson and her important work in shaping generations of music educators.”
Powerhouse of Sound will feature the “best of the best” of the University’s music program that includes jazz, choral, musical theatre, pop, percussion, and instrumental students. William Paterson student groups slated to perform include the WP Latin Jazz Ensemble, the Brass Sextet, the Advanced Treble Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, String Ensemble, Chamber Choir, and pop music groups presenting a range of music.
Pop musicians, the Chamber Singers, and the Wind Ensemble will combine forces for a powerhouse finale featuring “Purple Rain” by Prince and “Seasons of Love” from RENT.
Following the concert, attendees are invited bring their own instruments and join a Jam Session from 8:30–10:00 p.m. in Shea Center Room 103. A Singalong & Drum Circle will also take place after the concert at the WP monument on the Speert Green lawn, in front of Grant Hall.
