The Cannabis Research Institute (CRI) at William Paterson University has joined the Association of Cannabis Research Centers (ACRC), a network of more than 30 colleges, universities and research organizations across North America dedicated to advancing cannabis research and education.
"Membership in the ACRC creates new opportunities for William Paterson researchers to collaborate with colleagues at peer institutions, exchange ideas and identify emerging research priorities," says CRI Director Rahi Abouk, professor of health economics in William Paterson's Cotsakos College of Business.
Established in 2019, William Paterson's Cannabis Research Institute provides evidence-based scientific and social scientific information on cannabis, opioids and other substances. The institute brings together faculty from disciplines including economics, public health, biology, and the social/behavioral sciences to conduct research and provide data and policy analysis that informs decision-makers, educators and healthcare professionals.
The CRI also supports interdisciplinary learning at William Paterson through courses including Economics of Cannabis and Topics in Cannabis Use, as well as the University’s Cannabis Studies undergraduate certificate program. Together, these offerings expose students to the economic, clinical, public health, scientific and legal dimensions of cannabis, providing a broad understanding of the complex issues surrounding a rapidly evolving industry.
