William Paterson University has been selected for the third consecutive year to receive funding through the Mexican government’s IME Becas program, continuing a growing partnership designed to support students pursuing higher education.
The renewed grant, awarded through the Consulate of Mexico in New Brunswick, will provide scholarship assistance to students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at the University during the 2026-2027 academic year. This year, the Consulate’s contribution has increased to $7,500, with William Paterson providing matching funds to expand the impact of the program to $15,000 total.
The IME Becas initiative, supported by Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, helps improve educational attainment among Mexican and Mexican American communities by funding higher education opportunities internationally.
William Paterson University has been designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) since 2014 and continues to expand programs and partnerships that support student access, opportunity, and success.
“As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, William Paterson University is committed to creating pathways that help students thrive academically and professionally,” says George F. Kacenga, the University’s Vice President for Enrollment Management. “We are grateful to continue our partnership with the Consulate of Mexico through the IME Becas program, which provides meaningful financial support to students and reflects our shared commitment to educational opportunity and community empowerment.”
The scholarship funding will support eligible students during the 2026 academic year.
