Davontae “Vont” Leak is taking the radio business by storm. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communication, serving as program director and on-air talent for WP’s award-winning Brave New Radio, Vont was hired to host The Night Show at iHeartRadio station 101.3 KDWB in Minneapolis. Three months later, his show was airing on 30 other stations in the U.S. And after filling in for a few days as a guest on the station’s morning show, The Dave Ryan Show—a staple in the Twin Cities area for more than 30 years—he was asked to join the morning show as an assistant producer. His role includes co-hosting on-air segments as well as curating ideas, editing and loading audio, screening phone calls, and social media management. Now he’s one step closer to his dream of hosting his own morning radio show.
Proudest Professional Accomplishment: “The entire rollercoaster of events that have happened since I graduated college is what I’m most proud of. It’s an anomaly to get hired by iHeartRadio right out of college to host your own night show, and then get promoted to a major market morning show in less than a year, but I did it. I couldn’t be prouder of the person I am today. I’m truly living the life I’ve always strived for.”
