William Paterson University’s Bowling Team Advances to 2023 National Championship

The team gathers for a photo after winning the sectional championship last week

William Paterson University’s bowling team is one of 16 in the country to qualify for the 2023 Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada from April 19 to 22. This is the sixth consecutive year the University's team qualified for nationals.

The Pioneers secured their bid for Las Vegas after winning a sectional championship in Dayton, Ohio last week. There are only four men's sectionals in bowling, meaning there are only four sectional champions crowned across the nation each year. WP last won a sectional title in 2018.

The final rounds of the national competition will be taped for broadcast and televised on the CBS Sports Network in May.

William Paterson bowling's head coach Greg Hatzisavvas is a three-time William Paterson graduate; he earned his BS in physical education in 2008, MS in exercise and sport studies in 2012, and MBA in 2021.
