WP Theatre Presents Love Letters by A.R. Gurney from March 1 through March 5

William Paterson University Theatre presents Love Letters by A.R. Gurney in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on the campus in Wayne, NJ from Tuesday, March 1 through Saturday, March 5.

Performance times are Tuesday, March 1 at 12:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2 through Friday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 5  at 2:15 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $7 for the WP community and senior citizens.

First staged at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut in 1988, Love Letters is a two-character male/female play that has been performed by a veritable treasure trove of acting legends including Julie Harris, Blythe Danner, George Segal, Christopher Walken, Colleen Dewhurst, Lynn Redgrave, and Jane Curtin.

The story spans the lives of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner as they sit at two separate tables recounting the simple yet remarkable arc of their lives over the passage of time through written letters. Themes like love, loss, change, joy, and sadness are explored during the intimate and revealing piece by the legendary playwright.

“In the truest sense of the phrase, this is a demonstration of how less is more,” says Jerry Beal, professor of communication and director of the March production. “The play is two people seated at separate desks, reading letters written to each other over half a century, and magic is made.”

The cast includes WP students Anthony Finnen, Pompton Plains, NJ and Emily Wynne, Verona, NJ.
