Literature to Life presents a single-actor stage performance of If Beale Street Could Talk at William Paterson University in Wayne on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. General admission is $8.
Adapted and directed by Elise Thoron, and performed by Channie Waites, If Beale Street Could Talk is the story of love in the face of injustice. Young lovers Tish and Fonny discover that they are expecting a baby after Fonny is wrongfully arrested for a crime he did not commit.
This 50-minute single-actor performance is told through the eyes of Tish, as well as Fonny. This story of one family's fight for justice in a society where institutional discrimination has the power to destroy lives will resonate with audiences from all walks of life. The content is very explicit with mature scenes.
Literature to Life presents adaptations of award-winning works of modern American literature, always performed by a single actor. These adaptations use key dramatic moments to tell the complete and intended story from the author.
