Students in William Paterson University’s Public Health Club presented a collection of clothing, toiletries, and non-perishable food donated by the campus community to the New Jersey Reentry Corporation, a nonprofit group that helps formerly incarcerated individuals and their families.
“This is the second year we have conducted this drive,” says Naa-Solo Tettey, associate professor, public health, and advisor to the club. “This really connects students with what they're learning in class and makes it real for them, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and helping those who may not have as much as they do."
The donated goods were formally presented to Jada Fulmore, Passaic County director of New Jersey Reentry, at the event on December 18, 2019. Also present were Venkat Sharma, dean, College of Science and Health, Corey Basch, chair and professor, public health, Shellecia Smith, president, Public Health Club, and student club members.
Donated items included coats, hats, gloves and scarves for men, women, and children, business attire for job interviews, toiletries, and non-perishable food items, such as canned goods.
