William Paterson University’s student-run radio station, WPSC-FM (88.7) in Wayne, N.J., won the “New Jersey Student Radio Station of the Year” award at the annual New Jersey Broadcasters Association awards. WPSC-FM was a finalist along with Seton Hall University, Rutgers University, Rider University, and Rowan University.
The award was announced June 13 at the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Atlantic City during the NJBA’s 71st Annual Conference and Gala saluting “The Majesty of Radio.” Founded in 1946, the NJBA is the trade association for television and radio stations in New Jersey.
“The honor recognized outstanding on-air work and a commitment to training the next generation of broadcasters,” says Rob Quicke, William Paterson University communication department chair and general manager of WPSC-FM.
The award follows a number of prestigious accolades for the popular station, which includes wining the national 2018 Marconi Award for “Noncommercial Station of the Year”from the National Association of Broadcasters and being one of five finalists for Best College Radio Station in the U.S. in March 2019 at the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasters System Awards in New York City.
