William Paterson University’s Bowling Team won the 2018 National Collegiate Club Bowling Championship this past weekend in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The top 24 men’s teams and top 16 women's teams from around the country were invited to participate. William Paterson men placed well in a qualifying tournament and earned a first-round bye. They then beat Arizona State 3.5-2.5, Rochester Institute of Technology 3-0 and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 3-2. William Paterson was then defeated by Wright State 2-3. After being sent into the contenders bracket, the team came back to beat Morehead State 2-1, and finally Wright State 3-1 then 2-0 to win the 2018 National Championship. William Paterson becomes the first men’s team to win this championship in back to back years.
Jake Rollins and Steve Kotowski, seniors, were named to the first team all-tournament team. Prior to the tournament an awards ceremony was held and Steve Kotowski was named club bowling first team all-American and Andrew Dekowski was named second team all-American. Additionally, Head Coach Greg Hatzisavvas was named the 2018 Club Bowling Coach of the Year.
The team now looks to Intercollegiate Team Championships held in Lincoln, Nebraska, April 18 to 21. This tournament allows the best bowling programs in the nation to compete against each other regardless of club, athletic, or NAIA status. William Paterson University placed second in this event two years ago and fifth last year.
Head coach Greg Hatzisavvas is a William Paterson graduate, with a BS in physical education in 2008 and a master’s degree in exercise and sport studies in 2012. Assistant coach Andrew Suscreba '14, MBA '17, is also a William Paterson graduate.
