Tahesha Way, New Jersey’s acting secretary of state; W. David Hubbard, vice president and deputy general counsel for Verizon Communications; and Christopher Irving, MA ‘06, executive director and CEO for Ceceilyn Miller Institute for Leadership and Diversity in America (CMI), will be the panelists for a Diversity Symposium to be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the University Commons Multipurpose Room on campus. Lunch will be served.
The topic, “Diversity: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” will explore all aspects of diversity issues throughout the state, nation, business world, and in higher education. This event will be the first in a series of discussions at the University on the topic of diversity and inclusion.
Way is the acting secretary of state for New Jersey. She spent five years as a state administrative law judge and is a former Passaic County Freeholder. New Jersey’s secretary of state oversees elections, tourism, an arts council, and several cultural and international commissions, among other duties.
Hubbard leads Verizon’s marketing, intellectual property and new media law and policy team. He provides legal counsel to Verizon’s marketing organization, which includes supporting marketing, advertising, intellectual property, and external communications for Verizon’s entire portfolio of businesses.
Irving is the founder of the Ceceilyn Miller Institute for Leadership and Diversity in America, a non-profit organization dedicated to the cause of social justice and leadership development. He earned his MA degree in public policy and international affairs from William Paterson and holds a doctorate from Seton Hall University.
The event, which is planned to be held every year, is sponsored by William Paterson University’s Office of Employment Equity and Diversity and Office of Campus Activities, Service and Leadership. This year it is part of a series of events celebrating Black History Month.
