The William Paterson University Music Department will honor longtime Professor Jeffrey Kresky, music theorist, composer, conductor and keyboardist, with a retirement concert featuring his music, at the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. The concert will take place on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at 7 p.m. and will feature the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble and guests.
Kresky earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a doctorate from Princeton University. Throughout Kresky’s 44-year career, he specialized in contemporary performance and composition. His work as a music theorist is focused on analysis and criticism. Kresky is a devoted Gilbert and Sullivan scholar and often conducts productions of their work. At William Paterson, Kresky directs the music theory area in the music honors program.
Kresky is the author of A Reader’s Guide to the Chopin Preludes and Tonal Music, as well as articles and reviews in “Perspectives of New Music,” “Gettysburg Review,” “The Music Review,” “Theory and Practice” and “Music Theory Spectrum.”
The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble has been in residence at William Paterson University since 1972. The Ensemble is directed by Peter Jarvis and comprised of professionals and William Paterson students. The Ensemble has appeared in the United States and Europe as guests of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Group for Contemporary Music, the Composers Guild of New Jersey, the San Francisco Symphony, the Gaudeamus Foundation and Radio Denmark among others.
