William Paterson University’s Alumni Association welcomes alumni back to campus for Homecoming 2017 with an Oktoberfest carnival, WP Biergarten, football, and more festivities on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15. Parking for all Saturday events is available in Lot 6 for free or in the Pioneer Parking Deck ($5 per car).
"We're delighted that so many alumni have returned to campus for Homecoming in recent years, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to this year's event," says Janis Schwartz, executive director, Alumni Relations.The festivities begin on Saturday, October 14 with an Oktoberfest Carnival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Practice Field on campus. Alumni and their families are invited for food, games, prizes, giveaways and activities for all ages.
A WP Biergarten featuring craft beer tastings and snacks will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Practice Field for $15 per person (must be 21 or over with ID required).
The Pioneer Football Team squares off against Frostburg State University at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Football Stadium. Admission is $8; $5 for alumni with a membership card, seniors, children under 12, visiting school’s students with I.D., and William Paterson faculty and staff; and free for William Paterson students with I.D.Other activities include a Kinesiology Open House from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Alumni are invited to see the newly renovated Preakness Hall. Judy LoBianco, president-elect, Society of Health & Physical Education (Shape America) will speak from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. about current developments in the fields of health and physical education; and Bill Parisi, founder of Parisi Franchise Systems, Inc., will speak from 5:30 to 6 p.m. about current developments in the field of strength and conditioning. Both speakers will be in the Preakness Hall Auditorium.
The Men’s Soccer Team plays Stockton University at 5:30 p.m. in Pioneer Soccer Park.
Homecoming 2017 continues on Sunday, October 15 with William Paterson’s 33rd Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Brunch at 11:30 a.m. in the University Commons Ballroom. Admission is $28 per person; $21 for William Paterson students and children under 18. For reservations please email Gina at buffalinog@wpunj.edu. At 3 p.m. on Sunday, there will be an Alumni Softball Game on the Pioneer Softball Field.The University Galleries will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 15. Current exhibitions include“For Home and Country: World War I Posters from the Newark Public Library” curated by Professor George Robb, in the South Gallery; the “Veteran’s Book Project,” on view in the East Gallery, and a faculty exhibition on view in the Court Gallery.Homecoming 2017 is underwritten, in part, by Liberty Mutual.
