Jazz Director Bill Charlap to Join WP Jazz Orchestra and Student Ensembles for New York City Performance at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola on February 27

Grammy Award-winning pianist Bill Charlap, William Paterson University’s director of jazz studies, will be the guest soloist with the William Paterson Jazz Orchestra and two student jazz ensembles during a special performance at New York jazz venue Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola on Monday, February 27.

This is the third straight year that William Paterson jazz groups have performed at the prestigious location, which is part of Jazz at Lincoln Center. “It’s a privilege to teach and perform with our talented musicians and this venue gives them an opportunity to experience performance on a professional level,” says Charlap.

The performance, with sets beginning at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., will feature big band and small group works by the late pianists and composers James Williams and Mulgrew Miller, both of whom previously served as director of jazz studies at William Paterson, along with works by other major composers whose compositions are housed in the William Paterson Living Jazz Archives Collection.  Charlap will be featured on one number with the jazz orchestra and one number with a student ensemble.
