For High School Administrators

William Paterson University Currently Has Three Models for High School Dual Enrollment:

Model 1: Taught by teachers in the high school 

  • Cost is $100 per credit for 1000 level and 2000 level college courses for New Jersey residents. 
  • High school teachers receive adjunct faculty status 
  • William Paterson supervising faculty member works hand in hand with the high school teacher to establish requisite learning outcomes and associated course expectations, meets periodically with the teacher, and observes the class on occasion. 
  • At the end of each term, grades are recorded on a William Paterson University transcript that students can use as evidence of college credit completion. 

Model 2: Taught by William Paterson faculty at the high school 

  • Effective Fall 2023, cost is $199 per credit for New Jersey residents.
  • At the end of each term, grades are recorded on a William Paterson University transcript that students can use as evidence of college credit completion. 

Model 3: Taught by William Paterson faculty on our Wayne campus 

  • High school students come to William Paterson University’s campus for their senior year and take 24 college-level credits that count both toward a William Paterson University bachelor’s degree and a high school diploma. 
  • Effective Fall 2023, cost is $199 per credit for New Jersey residents.

Model 4: Business courses taught by William Paterson faculty virtually/asynchronously

  • High school students take AACSB accredited business courses, taught by William Paterson faculty, virtually and asynchronously and supplemented with further in-person instruction from high school teachers.
  • William Paterson faculty will collaborate with the high school teachers on various class management tasks.
  • Effective Fall 2023, cost is $199 per credit for New Jersey residents.

  • Select course(s) from our list of suggested courses or WP can work with the high school to customize a course.
  • Email Patrick Noonan at noonanp@wpunj.edu the CV(s) of the proposed high school teacher(s) and the high school course outline(s).  Both the CV’s and the high school course outlines will be shared with the appropriate WP academic department(s).
  • WP Academic department reviews the high school teachers’ CV’s and high school courses and once approved, the high school teacher becomes a WPU adjunct.
  • A dual enrollment contract/agreement will be approved and signed by both WPU and the school district.
  • Identify eligible students for the course(s).  There is a minimum of 10 students per course.

Admissions Criteria:

  • For cohort programs through the high school, the school district is responsible for identifying eligible students for each course being offered for college credit and ensuring these students are able to manage college-level course work. The GPA requirements are 3.25 and above for high school juniors and 3.0 and above for high school seniors.  High achieving high school sophomores may be eligible, at the school district's discretion.
  • All students taking dual enrollment courses individually, and not part of a cohort program, require a teacher, principal, or school counselor letter of recommendation.  GPA requirements are 3.25 and above for juniors and 3.0 for seniors.  Placement testing may be required for certain courses.  Individual dual enrollment students should contact The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@wpunj.edu or 973-720-2125.

Deadlines for School Districts and Cohort Programs:

  • Course outline and high school teacher resume submissions for the 2024-2025 academic year: May 1, 2024.
  • Application: Fall/full year courses- September 30th.  Spring- January 30th.
  • Registration (including parental consent form submission): Fall/full year courses- October 15th.  Spring- February 15th.
  • Withdrawals: Fall/full year courses- October 30th.  Spring- March 5th.
  • Payment: Fall/full year courses- November 15th.  Spring- March 15th.
  • **All individual dual enrollment students adhere to the William Paterson University Semester Calendars deadlines**

Billing Information:

  • Bills are generated upon each student's registration.
  • If the school district pays: WPU accounts payable generates an invoice after all students are registered, which is mailed to the school district’s billing/accounts payable office.
  • If the individual student pays: Each student is sent a bill to their WPU email account or a third party authorized by the student.
