FAMILIES FIRST CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE ACT (FFCRA), EXPANDED FMLA and EMERGENCY PAID SICK LEAVE

The Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) is a temporary emergency benefit comprised of two components: the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act (EPSLA) and the Emergency Family Medical Leave Act (E-FMLA) and is specific to circumstances that arise from COVID-19. This Act expires December 31, 2020.

FFCRA Request for Leave of Absence Forms:

  1. Care for self due to quarantine, illness or symptoms
  2. Care for loved one in case of coronavirus quarantine, illness, or symptoms
  3. Care for child(ren) whose school or child care is closed due to COVID-19 related reasons 

    Procedure for school closures and lack of childcare:

    i. Employee submits request to Supervisor to work remotely (fully or intermittent)

    ii. Email request should include name of child(ren) and name of school, current school reopening plan*, and

    iii. Representation that no other suitable person is available to provide care

    iv. If the supervisor approves the request, no further action is required. If other arrangements cannot be made, the supervisor should contact the Benefits Office at payroll@wpunj.edu

* If school reopening plan changes, employees must submit revised plan

COVID RELATED REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

Reasonable Accommodations: According to the Centers for Disease Control, individuals with certain conditions may have a higher risk for COVID-19 infection. Those conditions may include:

  • Asthma -moderate-to-severe
  • Being immunocompromised
  • Chronic kidney disease being treated with dialysis
  • Chronic lung disease
  • Diabetes
  • HIV
  • Older adults (aged 65 years and older)
  • Serious heart disease
  • Severe obesity
