Covid-19 Health and Safety Information

This site includes information and resources for the William Paterson University community regarding COVID-19 health and safety, including campus communications, campus operations, health and prevention, and other topics. We are following guidance from the CDC, the State of New Jersey, and local public health agencies regarding the response to COVID-19, which is coordinated by the University's COVID Response Team. The team is co-chaired by the Director of Counseling, Health, and Wellness and the Director of Public Safety and University Police, and includes representatives from a wide range of campus offices.

Fall 2023 Semester

The Fall 2023 semester begins on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. The University will provide on-campus instruction, as well as a mix of online and hybrid courses. Campus life will feature primarily in-person programs and events and in-person interactions with peers, faculty, and staff. The Office of Residence Life will offer a traditional occupancy model. Student support services will be offered both in person and remotely. The University continues to adhere to all state and federal guidelines and regulations to ensure a safe and healthy work and learning environment.

Health and Safety Protocols

Vaccines:

With the expiration on May 11, 2023 of the federal COVID-19 public health emergency declared under section 319 of the Public Health Service Act, William Paterson University will no longer require COVID-19 vaccines for employees and students. However, it is strongly recommended that individuals, especially those who are at risk for complications, stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.

Testing:

Home test kits for COVID-19 are widely available in pharmacies, grocery stores, and other retail locations. In addition, the State of New Jersey COVID-19 Information Hub, covid19.nj.gov/pages/testing, offers resources for accessing testing locations.

Students who may have been exposed to COVID-19 or are having symptoms may get tested through the Counseling, Health and Wellness Center. Any student requesting to be tested should call 973-720-2360 to make an appointment.

A WP COVID Testing Portal has been established to help streamline contact tracing and notifications. All student and employees will have access to their own portal and can upload their test results. All positive results should still be reported through the WP COVID Testing Portal.

Masks:

As of Fall 2022, the University is a mask-friendly campus, and this will continue in Fall 2023. Masks are still required for all in the Counseling, Health and Wellness Center. All individuals who are exposed to COVID-19 will be required to wear masks in all indoor spaces for 10 days post-exposure. It is recommended that you get tested on day 6. The masking policy is subject to change depending on conditions in the community.
