Program Description: 

The Music Performance Certificate Program offers 16-credit graduate certificates that provide high-level training for practicing musicians. With this flexible program, it is possible to complete a stand-alone certificate or to “stack” the certificate, fulfilling several requirements of our Master of Music degree with a concentration in Music Education.  

Available Certificates Include: 

  • Music Performance – Classical Track 
    A certificate program for classical musicians who have completed college and wish to hone their performance skills. This certificate, which can be completed in one calendar year, consists of 2 semesters of applied lessons, ensembles, and electives, and culminates in a certificate recital. It can be completed in one year and can be stacked with other courses to complete a Master of Music. 
  • Music Performance – Jazz Track 
    A certificate program for classical musicians who have completed college and wish to hone their performance skills. This certificate, which can be completed in one calendar year, consists of 2 semesters of applied lessons, ensembles, and electives, and culminates in a certificate recital. It can be completed in one year and can be stacked with other courses to complete a Master of Music.

Application Deadline

Rolling admission, but applications recommended by June 15 for fall study. 

 

Exit Requirements for Performance Certificates

Satisfactory completion of all courses required for the certificate, including the certificate recital.

Admission Requirements:  

  1. Application to the university. 
  2. A bachelor's in music or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university and official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended.
  3. For the Performance Certificate – Classical Track, submission of a video-recorded placement audition or a live audition for the applied lesson component.  For specific audition requirements, click here.
  4. For the Performance Certificate – Jazz Track, submission of a video-recorded placement audition or a live audition for the applied lesson component.  For specific audition requirements, click here.  

    Certificate students who wish to enroll in the Master of Music program may fulfill additional application and audition requirements, which include the following: 

    • Revised application to the university. 
    • Two letters of recommendation, and 
    • Audition demonstrating pedagogical or conducting skill (video-recorded) or performance skill (live or recorded audition).
