The Department of Teacher Education: PreK-12 prepares inquiring and reflective educators to teach in diverse settings from preschool through grade twelve in the public schools of New Jersey. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered to students who are pursuing early childhood, elementary and secondary education as a profession and to certified teachers who want to enhance their professional development and practice through graduate study.

Undergraduate Programs

  • BA in Early Childhood Education (P-3)
  • BA in Early Childhood Education with Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement (P-3/TSD)
  • BA in Elementary Education (K-6) or K-6/5-8
  • BA in Elementary Education (K-6 or K-5/5-8 with Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement    (K-6/TSD)
  • BA in Secondary Education K-12 in content areas: Arts, Biological Science, Chemistry, Chinese, Physical Science, Earth Science,English, French, Japanese, Math, Social Studies and Spanish 
  • BA in Secondary Education Subject Field (K-12) with Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD)

Graduate Programs

  • MEd in Early Childhood Education
  • MAT in Elementary Education (K-6) (Option to add TSD Endorsement)
  • MAT in Elementary Education with Middle School Endorsement
  • MAT in Secondary Education Subject Field K-12

Alternate Route Programs

  • Graduate Certificate: Modified Alternate Route, Early Childhood (P-3)
  • Graduate Certificate: Alternate Route, English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • MAT in Elementary Education, Alternate Route Option
  • MAT in Secondary Education, Alternate Route Option

The initial certification programs, both undergraduate and graduate in the Department of Teacher Education: PreK-12 , prepare the candidates with the knowledge, skills and credentials needed to successfully teach in New Jersey schools. The graduate MEd program provides certified teachers with the opportunity to enhance their professional knowledge and skills. All programs seek to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will improve outcomes for all PreK-grade 12 children.
