William Paterson University is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The PSLF program allows for the forgiveness of the remaining balance due on a loan under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program after the borrower makes 120 qualifying payments, under a qualifying repayment plan, while employed full-time by a qualifying employer. Due to a temporary waiver of eligibility rules, borrowers may now receive credit for past periods of repayment that would otherwise not qualify for PSLF. Under the temporary waiver, any prior period of repayment will count as a qualifying payment regardless of loan program, repayment plan, or whether the payment was made in full or on time. The above referenced waiver is applicable to student loan borrowers with Direct Loans, those who have already consolidated into the Direct Loan Program, and those who consolidate into the Direct Loan Program by Oct. 31, 2022.* Usually non-defaulted Direct Loans are eligible for loan forgiveness including but not limited to the following: Direct Subsidized Loans Direct Unsubsidized Loans Direct PLUS Loans Direct Consolidation Loans Other federal student loan programs may become eligible for PSLF if they are consolidated into a Direct Consolidation Loan, however, only payments made on the Direct Consolidation Loan will count toward the required 120 qualifying payments. An eligible borrower must: Not be in default on the loans for which they are requesting forgiveness Be employed full-time by a qualifying employer when making each of the required 120 qualifying loan payments, at the time of application for loan forgiveness and during the time of the remaining balance on eligible loans* University employment verification process for PSLF borrowers: Eligible PSLF borrowers must utilize the University’s employment verification vendor, Wageverify, for completion of the employer’s information on the Employment Certification for Public Service Loan Form. Employees may contact Wageverify by email at support@wageverify.com or via phone 866-927-5993 to request completion of the required employer information on the loan form. Once the form is updated with the employer certification information, Wageverify will return the document to the employee via the email provided to Wageverify. The employee can then submit the document to the loan servicer for the PSLF program. As a reminder, due to a temporary waiver of eligibility rules, borrowers may now receive credit for past periods of repayment that would otherwise not qualify for PSLF.
