Network Core Upgrade Scheduled for Friday November 29th

On Friday, November 29th 2019, the University IT/Enterprise Network and System Services unit will perform a network infrastructure core upgrade to the university data centers to improve network traffic performance. This is one of two infrastructure core upgrades that will boost the university network performance from 10Gbps to 100Gbps throughput. We will be replacing the existing 10GB core data center server aggregation switches with new 100GB core switches.

The second upgrade will be performed during the spring semester 2020. This last upgrade will consist in the replacement of all of the existing 10GB core infrastructure switches interconnecting all university buildings with new 100GB core switches.

The ultimate goal of this upgrade is to not only boost the campus internal traffic performance by a factor of 10 but also to maintain a technology growth advantage needed to cope with future demanding information technology services and resources for the next 7 to 10 years.
