Available now for University Windows computers: Microsoft Office Upgrade to Office 365 ProPlus with OneDrive

The push toward cloud-based services and storage has been in the works for many years at the University and will continue to move forward with the newest version of Microsoft Office 365 and greater adoption of OneDrive.

Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus is the latest offering of the installed Office Suite of software applications and will soon become the standard Office version installed on University-image computers. Office 365 ProPlus integrates seamlessly with Microsoft’s 365 cloud environment and boasts improved sharing features for OneDrive and SharePoint, real time collaboration functionality, and consistent product updates for an improved experience. Office 365 desktop applications will automatically sign in with the end user’s University credentials, giving them the same access to the software options they would see in a web browser at www.wpunj.edu/365

In addition to automatic sign in for Office applications, OneDrive – Microsoft’s cloud-based storage solution – will soon redirect certain desktop folders on university Windows computers directly to your Office 365 cloud storage, allowing individuals to access their files from anywhere, eliminating the need for “user files” and VPN to access them remotely. On University-image Mac computers, you can copy or move files into the OneDrive (William Paterson University) folder if you want to access those files from other locations.

This transition to Office 365 will happen behind the scenes on University-image Windows machines and is triggered by user logon, using their University credentials. The Microsoft cloud integration that’s built into Office 365 and OneDrive provide greater document storage safety, access, collaboration, and flexibility and will improve the user experience on University issued machines. On macOS machines, you will be prompted to log in with your WPU e-mail credentials. You may be prompted to access a keychain during or instead of logging in.

If you are interested in being an early adopter of the Office 365 and OneDrive installation, please contact the Information Technology Helpdesk at www.wpunj.edu/helpdesk or (973) 720-4357. By January 2022, the Office 365 install will be available for install on University employee Windows computers through the Software Center.

For University Mac computers, Office 365/Office Pro Plus is already available for on-demand install through the Managed Software Center.
