Coming Soon: Microsoft Office Upgrade to Office 365 ProPlus with OneDrive

The push toward cloud-based services and storage has been in the works for many years at the University and will continue to move forward with the newest version of Microsoft Office 365 and greater adoption of OneDrive.

Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus is the latest offering of the installed Office Suite of software applications and will soon become the standard Office version installed on University-image computers. Office 365 ProPlus integrates seamlessly with Microsoft’s 365 cloud environment and boasts improved sharing features for OneDrive and SharePoint, real time collaboration functionality, and consistent product updates for an improved experience. Office 365 desktop applications will automatically sign in with the end user’s University credentials, giving them the same access to the software options they would see in a web browser at www.wpunj.edu/365

On university Windows computers, in addition to automatic sign in for Office applications, OneDrive – Microsoft’s cloud-based storage solution – will soon redirect certain desktop folders on university computers directly to your Office 365 cloud storage, allowing individuals to access their files from anywhere, eliminating the need for “user files” and VPN to access them remotely.

This transition to Office 365 will happen behind the scenes on University-image machines and is triggered by user logon, using their University credentials. The Microsoft cloud integration that’s built into Office 365 and OneDrive provide greater document storage safety, access, collaboration, and flexibility and will improve the user experience on University issued machines.

On university Macs, once available, Office 365 Pro Plus will be made available as an upgrade through the Managed Software Center. Information on the impacts of the upgrade on OneDrive on Macs will be shared with Mac users at that time.
