University Wins Award for Green Design

William Paterson University’s new 1,000 space parking garage, currently under construction, has already garnered an award for its energy efficient LED lighting technology. The Green Design Award was presented by the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders at its annual green design conference held on June 18, 2014.

Present at the ceremony were (left to right) Bruce James, director, Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Stephen Hahn, associate provost; Richard Stomber, associate vice president for administration; and former New Jersey Governor Jim Florio, who attended the conference.

“The design team’s approach to lighting for this project will contribute to safety, visibility, green house gas reductions, and energy savings over the next twenty-five years,” says Richard Stomber, associate vice president for administration, who accepted the award on University’s behalf. The University expects to save more than $50,000 a year in electricity costs by using this technology.

The University received two Green Design Awards for the renovation of Science Hall East and the Smart Buildings Project from the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders in June 2012. The awards recognize the University's ongoing commitment to sustainability in building and design.
