William Paterson University to Host 20th Annual Guitarfest on May 2

William Paterson University’s Department of Music will host its 20th annual guitar festival, Guitarfest 2015, on Saturday, May 2 in Hobart Manor on the University’s campus in Wayne. The day’s events include a concert and master class presented by guitarist Anna Mnich.

Admission is $20 for one or more events, and free for William Paterson University students.  The fee for students who wish to participate in the master class is $60.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a performance by William Paterson University guitar students. At 1:30 p.m., flute/guitar duo Tia Roper-Gabriel Handy will present a program including works by Ibert, Molino, David Leisner and works of other composers. At 3 p.m., William Paterson faculty member Paul Meyers will share his ideas on how to create great-sounding, playable arrangements for solo guitar. Anna Mnich will conduct a master class from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will perform at 8 p.m.

Anna Mnich, master class performer, comes to the U.S. from Poland. She is a recipient of the Andres Segovia Award and has won numerous competitions in Poland and international competitions in Rust, Austria and in the U.S. Mnich performed for the New York Historical Society, the Long Island Guitar Festival, the Pilsudski Institute of America in New York and the 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony. She is also a member of the Silesian Guitar Octet, which performed in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, and she has recorded with the Polish Radio National Symphonic Orchestra of Katowice. Mnich has a master of music degree from Manhattan School of Music where she studied with David Starobin and a master of music degree from the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, where she studied with Wanda Palacz.
