Judy Woodruff, Internationally Recognized Journalist and Anchor of PBS NewsHour, to Speak at William Paterson University on December 6 as part of the 40th Annual Distinguished Lecturer Series Judy Woodruff Judy Woodruff, broadcast journalist, news anchor and managing editor of PBS NewsHour, will speak at William Paterson University on Thursday, December 6, 2018 in the Shea Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m., as part of the University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series. The Series is in its 40th year of bringing leading personalities from the worlds of politics, government, the arts, literature, sports, science, and business, along with original programs, to the University’s campus in Wayne. In the four-decade history of the series, more than 175 public figures, including British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, journalist and activist Gloria Steinem, composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, have made presentations to 100,000 audience members. Woodruff will share insights on the Trump administration, Congress, and the changing political landscape with an in-depth analysis of the midterm election results. Woodruff has won numerous awards throughout her career— the Joan Shorenstein Barone Award, James Beard Award for “Best National Television Food Journalism,” News & Documentary Emmy Award for "Outstanding Instant Coverage of a Single Breaking News Story,” Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award, Cine Lifetime Achievement Award, and Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award. Woodruff studied at Duke University where she started as a math major and later switched her major to political science. She had interned for two summers with U.S. Representative of Georgia, Robert Grier Stephens, Jr. This experience sparked her interest in politics and would later have her covering some of the most ground-breaking political debates. She has worked with television networks, such as ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN. Woodruff is also the founding co-chairperson of International Women’s Media Foundation, an organization designed to promote and encourage women in journalism and communication industries worldwide. 11/12/18
