Bilingual/Bicultural Education Certificate

Application Deadline:

August 1: Fall semester
December 1: Spring semester
April 15: Summer semester

*International students are advised to apply by:
April 1st: Fall (September intake)
November 1st: Spring (January intake)

Exit Requirements:

• Successful completion of curriculum
• A score of Advanced Low or higher on the Oral Proficiency Interviews (OPI) and Written Proficiency Tests (WPT) in English and the target language

These tests are required by the State of New Jersey. They are the official tool of the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and are administered by Language Testing International. For more information and current prices visit www.languagetesting.com

Exception: Candidates for certification who establish themselves as a speaker of the target language who was primarily educated at the undergraduate or graduate level in that language, as determined by their submitted foreign evaluation transcript(s), will be exempt from taking the oral and written language proficiency tests (OPI & WPT) in their target language.

Admission Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of no less than 3.00 on 4.00 scale.
• A Standard New Jersey teaching certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS).
• For the Bilingual/Bicultural Certification, World Languages teaching certificates are not deemed an appropriate area of initial certification.
