Current Title: Associate Producer, Al Jazeera Media Network
Rayah Hammad is an associate producer for Al Jazeera. In her role, she translates and produces two- to three-minute videos on breaking news and current events, with a focus on shedding light on the ongoing issues in Palestine. Rayah’s passion for journalism is rooted in her own family's history of displacement from Palestine to Jordan. During a four-month internship with Al Jazeera Arabic in Washington, DC, she observed people working on stories about the Palestinian struggle, which increased her dedication even more. By sharing these important stories with the world, she aims to give a voice to the voiceless and contribute to a greater understanding of the challenges faced by Palestinians especially those who are currently in Gaza.
Proudest Professional Accomplishment: "I am very proud of becoming a successful Al Jazeera journalist at only 24."
WP Pride. “William Paterson University played a crucial role in my professional success. During my time there, I was actively involved in the Society of Professional Journalists, which opened many doors for me. As an e-board member, I had the incredible opportunity to tour the United Nations and Al Jazeera's office, where I met a correspondent who later secured me an internship in Washington, DC. This internship was a steppingstone that led to my full-time position as a journalist. I am deeply grateful to William Paterson University for providing me with the education, opportunities, and connections that have been instrumental in my career.”
