STEAM EXPO

Approximately 190 K-8 students from the Paterson Public Schools visited William Paterson University on Friday, December 15, 2023 for the STEAM EXPO coordinated by the College of Education.

The STEAM EXPO provides students with an in-depth view of University programs and resources, and insights on careers with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The students were introduced to a wide array of STEAM activities across the campus with visits to the 3-D Printing Lab and Curriculum Materials Center in the Library, laboratory spaces in Hennings & Science Halls, and the College of Education at the Valley Road Campus. Students participated in several hands-on activities throughout the day including coding with Legos and Makey Makey STEM kits, animal builds with Kynex and Spheros, and viewing underwater forests & shark fossils.

IRT staff demonstrated the use of  3-D printing software to design 3-D models and displayed samples of models printed by WP students, faculty, and staff at the 3-D Printing Lab visit. When students visited the Curriculum Materials Center in the Library, Education & Curriculum Materials Librarian, Neil Grimes, provided information and resources that would help explore future careers in STEAM fields. The students participated in a guided career readiness activity where they completed a career information worksheet. The session provided students with a greater understanding of STEAM fields, the educational requirements to enter those fields, how to research those fields, and university programs they could explore to enter those fields.
