Peter Jarvis, Director of the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble at William Paterson University, Releases New CD

Peter Jarvis, a teacher, percussionist, conductor, and director of the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble at William Paterson University, has released a new CD, Jarvis and Friends, Volume 1. The album is a collection of mostly improvised duo collaborations for drum set with horn, accordion and trumpets.

Jarvis, who plays drums and vibraphone, has teamed up with some of the finest musicians to produce this collection of creative music—Glen Velez on drums, Franz Hackl on trumpet, William Schimmel on accordion and John Clark on horn. The collection of duos has 21 tracks with four sets of duos.

The CD is currently eligible in the first round of voting for Grammy nominations in the categories of “Contemporary Instrumental Album” and “Classical Compendium.” The recording was released on Composers Concordance and is distributed through NAXOS, a label specializing in classical music. It is available on iTunes and Amazon.

Jarvis and Friends was recorded in the sound engineering arts studios at William Paterson University with help from sound engineer and music professor, Dave Kerzner.

Jarvis, a New Jersey native and alumnus at William Paterson University, also teaches music at Connecticut College and Bergen Community College. He is the director of William Paterson University’s New Music Series, and an associate director and co-director of Composers Concordance.
