The Faculty Senate provides a forum for community discussion and debate, and shares in the governance of the University by reviewing and recommending policies while working to make them effective. The Senate aims to ensure the fair representation of all academic departments and of personnel directly related to academic affairs, and promotes the general welfare of the Faculty and the University. The Senate retains significant responsibility for curricular review, the proposal of new courses and programs, and curriculum revision. The Senate functions largely through its numerous councils; the full Senate, with departmental representation, meets every two weeks during the academic semesters.
