Pioneer Hockey Club Team Has Stellar Season

The Pioneers are four-time northeast division champs and are on track to win their division for the fifth straight time

The Pioneer Ice Hockey Team, a club sport, is currently enjoying its number one ranking in Division II of the American Collegiate Hockey Division with a record of 22-3-1 with 4 games remaining before the playoffs. The Pioneers, who have scored 145 goals, are four-time northeast division champs and are on track to win their division for the fifth straight time.

"I believe the team's unwavering support for one another, genuine Pioneer Pride and their devoted coaches and parents have kept them on top for a long time," says Francisco Diaz, associate vice president for campus life. "They deserve all the recognition they receive for their hard work and outstanding dedication."

Ryan Mara, a senior forward, is the team’s highest scorer with 35 goals and 60 points. Kyle Garlasco, a junior forward, has 17 goals and 41 points. Richie Pallai has 22 goals and 40 points. Goalie Jordan Hulahan is 11-2-2 with a 2.19 goals-against average.

Club president Matt Hunter (11 goals, 47 assists) attributes the team’s winning season, in part, to a strong sense of camaraderie. “We have more experienced players this season,” he says. “We all know what to expect and what to do. We get along well, and we care about the success of the team, not the individuals.”
