William Paterson University Vice President Stephen Bolyai Named a Finalist in 2012 NJBIZ Awards

Stephen Bolyai, vice president for administration and finance at William Paterson University in Wayne, has been named a finalist in the Nonprofit CFO Large (50 or more employees) Category in the 2012 NJBIZ CFO of the Year awards program.

Stephen Bolyai, vice president for administration and finance at William Paterson University in Wayne, has been named a finalist in the Nonprofit CFO Large (50 or more employees) Category in the 2012 NJBIZ CFO of the Year awards program. The CFO of the Year awards finalists will be recognized and the winners in each category will be announced during a breakfast awards ceremony on October 30, 2012 at The Palace in Somerset Park in Somerset, NJ.

The annual award program, produced by NJBIZ, celebrates New Jersey’s financial executives at all levels who contribute to the success of New Jersey’s economic growth and stability. Finalists were selected in seven categories:  Public Company, Private Company with Revenues over $50MM, Private Company with Revenues up to $50MM, Nonprofit CFO – Small (50 or fewer employees), Nonprofit CFO – Large (50 or more employees), Best Turnaround Specialist and Best Growth Manager. The event is sponsored by WithumSmith+Brown, PC; CIGNA; Financial Executives International; McCarter & English; Real Estate Strategies; Robert Half; and Wells Fargo.

Bolyai has served since 1997 as vice president of administration and finance for William Paterson University, one of the largest public universities in New Jersey with more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students.  He is responsible for all financial and administrative decisions of an annual $225 million operating budget. He joined the William Paterson community in 1988, and previously served as associate vice president for finance and controller from 1990 to 1997 and as assistant vice president for business services from 1988 to 1990.

Prior to joining the University, Bolyai served as budget manager for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey from 1986 to 1988, and in various business administration positions with Fairleigh Dickinson University from 1981 to 1988.  Prior to his career in higher education, Bolyai held positions with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Wilmington Sales, Inc. and B.M.C. Durfee Trust Company.

The chair of the New Jersey State Colleges Vice President’s Council, Bolyai is a member of the New Jersey EACUBO Professional Development Committee.  He is former chair of the New Jersey Colleges Business Officers Council. He was instrumental in organizing the North Jersey Public Colleges Purchasing Collaborative.

A 30-year resident of River Vale, Bolyai has been active in his community with various civic and sports organizations.  He is a former member and served as treasurer of the River Vale Education Foundation, a former member of the Board of Trustees of First Congregational Church, and served as an advisor to both the Pascack Valley High School Board of Education and the River Vale Board of Education on architectural and construction matters for their new buildings programs. A graduate of Northeastern University, Bolyai hold a master’s degree in business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
