Dean Durling, CEO of QuickChek, which opened its newest store last month on the border of University’s campus, provided insight into his company’s strategy during a recent presentation as part of the 2013-14 Cotsakos College of Business Leadership Forum. The forum provides an opportunity for William Paterson students to hear first-hand from industry leaders about the challenges and opportunities in building successful businesses, as well as insights into current strategies and important macro trends.

Durling, whose family-owned, New Jersey-based business opened its 137th store at the corner of Hamburg Turnpike and Pompton Road, spoke to students and faculty on November 12.  He outlined QuickChek’s corporate culture and opportunities at his company, which is one of New Jersey’s largest employers.  Durling described his more than thirty-year history with the company, which included roles stocking shelves after school, a home delivery milk route, and working in stores throughout New Jersey. He gave the students with two important tips:  “prepare yourself for your next job and take a problem and turn it into an opportunity.”
