Mitch Albom, Author, Sports Reporter and Philanthropist, to Discuss his Work on March 27 as part of University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series

Albom will discuss his 35 years of sports coverage—from the biggest names in sports to the dangers of fandom

Best-selling author and sports reporter Mitch Albom will speak at William Paterson University in Wayne as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The program will take place in the University’s Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

Albom will discuss his 35 years of sports coverage—from the biggest names in sports to the dangers of fandom. He explores the money, corruption, racial tensions, as well as the pride, thrills and excitement of the games that have shaped our nation.

Albom has been named #1 Sports Columnist in the Nation by the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) 13 times and appears regularly on ESPN’s Sports Reporters. Most recently, he received the biggest prizes in sports journalism: The APSE Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement and an induction into the Sportswriters Hall of Fame.

He also has written many best-selling novels, including Tuesdays with Morrie; The Five People You Meet in Heaven, which is the most successful U.S. hardcover first adult novel ever; and For One More Day. Tuesdays with Morrie spent four years on The New York Times Best Sellers list and is now the most successful memoir ever published. His most recent novel, Have a Little Faith, was published in 2009 and was selected by Oprah.com as the best nonfiction book of 2009.  Three of his best-selling novels—Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heave,n and For One More Day—have been turned into successful TV movies.

As a philanthropist, Albom has founded seven charities, many in the metropolitan Detroit area. He also raised money for literacy projects and serves on boards for a variety of charities. In 1999 he was named National Hospice Organization’s Man of the Year.
