Maurice Vacca, Evening Supervisor, receives a WP P.R.I.D.E. Certificate of Excellence.

Maurice Vacca received a University CARES Award for Exceptional Service in recognition of the assistance he extended to a guest lecturer who could not locate her car one snowy evening.  Not familiar with the campus, the guest lecturer could not remember exactly where she had parked her car.  After spending 25 minutes walking around the parking lot, she came to the Cheng Library for advice or assistance.

Maurice graciously offered to drive the guest around to locate her car while also orienting her to the campus.  Together, they were able to locate the car, and the lecturer was safely on her way home.

Maurice is the Evening Supervisor of the Cheng Library and is well known at the University.  Over the years, he had gained a reputation for solving many minor problems and assisting in countless unexpected dilemmas. With his helpful and caring nature, Maurice embodies the attitude and commitment of the University’s P.R.I.D.E. spirit.

The Cheng Library is a popular space on campus and students can be seen studying alone and in groups throughout the day.  Maurice has helped many of these students often late at night.

This latest example of Maurice’s generous nature and helpful attitude was recognized by the WP P.R.I.D.E. Program. During the ceremony in the Paterson Room on February 5, 2015, Desyra Highsmith of Human Resources presented a certificate for the CARES Award to Maurice and $25.00 was added to his Pioneer Express account.

In his usual generous nature, Maurice dedicated the award to the entire Library staff for all the work they do for the University’s students, staff and visitors.

Congratulations to Maurice!
